Jerell’s Fight Against Cancer

Jerell injured his knee in January with a fall down their stairs at home. He was taken to the ER and was diagnosed with an ACL tear. Shortly after he was referred to an orthopedic surgeon at the office of Dr. Jason Grassbaugh where the care was abysmal. He was told there was no tear and he would be fine with physical therapy. Physical therapy commenced and he was committed to it for almost 6 months with visits in between with Dr. Grassbaugh to show that the knee injury was continuing to get worse, at which point he was told physical therapy could be done endlessly until we feel surgery is necessary. At the next appointment, the knee was worse again. Dr. Grassbaugh said verbatim he “didn't know where to go from here” and what the issue was so he sent him for imaging again on 9/26. During MRI the Sarcoma was detected and their family was NOT notified. Jerell was never told there was a Sarcoma found.

On 10/9, Jerell checked himself into the hospital with shortness of breath. Images were done which detected innumerable large masses in the bilateral left and right lungs, fluid in both lungs, lesions in the testes and swollen lymph nodes. Immediately they thought lung cancer or testicular cancer. As pathology started to come back, the new doctors realized it was a Sarcoma with an origin in the knee. With all the imaging done throughout the year, this wasn't caught until 9/26 and even then we were not notified. It has now spread to his lungs, lymph nodes and bones and has advanced to stage 4 very poorly treatable cancer with a prognosis of 8-18 months to live.

Jerell is an amazing, wonderful father of 3 small children who was unexpectedly diagnosed with Spindle Sarcoma Advanced Stage 4 Terminal Cancer. This has been devastating for his family. Jerell is the bread winner and heart of their home.

While running a business full time, taking care of their 3 children and being by Jarell’s side; Daleela is doing everything to keep things moving forward, but needs help during this fight. We ask for prayers and any donation to help their family at this terrible time.
