Jen was diagnosed with primary biliary cholangitis (aka PBC) in July of 2016. PBC is a rare auto immune disease of the liver where bile ducts are destroyed making it impossible for the liver to process anything, eventually causing the liver to go into cirrhosis and failure . At the time of the diagnosis, her Doctors told her it would be quite some time before she would need to worry about the possibility of having a transplant. But when Jen had her most recent bloodwork updated in April 2017 at California's UC Davis medical, they realized she had the most aggressive form of PBC and it was progressing very quickly. She had anticiapated the doctors at UC Davis would suggest a clinical trial, but much to her surprise, she was already too sick to particiapate. That new information lead to the shocking news that a  Liver Transplant is now imminent and necessary within the next few months.
The preliminary testing and workups, which will be preformed in Jacksonville Fl, will cost around $380,000 and could take up to three weeks. During this time, Jen will have to pay to stay in Jacksonville. The transplant costs roughly $650,000 and the medication post surgery could cost upward of $7,000.  After being discharged from the hospital, Jen will have to stay in a hotel for two weeks post surgery.  Her insurance deductible is $5,000 and her max out of pocket is $25,000.
