Jen's Mesh Removal Surgery

Donation protected
For those who don't know, I was talked into adding a mesh bladder sling to my total hysterectomy for recurring cervical cancer and other issues back in March, and life has been a complete nightmare ever since. A subsequent revision surgery only removed a portion of the mesh, and I've been in severe, debilitating pain that is actually increasing instead of decreasing. If you haven't seen in the news lately, mesh is hurting people left and right...unfortunately, the FDA didn't make it public or ban sales of certain types until 6 weeks AFTER I had mine placed, and only a week and a half after my partial revision.

I'm in desperate need of getting the rest of this mesh out of me, and one of the top mesh removal surgeons in the US has agreed to see me. I'll be flying up to St. Louis to consult with him on June 24, and if all goes well, I'll go under the knife again on July 31.

This surgeon is not in my insurance network, nor is any other surgeon that is recommended or trusted to do this surgery right and completely the first time. I am pushing my insurance, jumping through all the appeal hoops and whatever I possibly can, but it's still likely that they won't cover it. And it's not cheap, of course.

So I'm asking for your help. If insurance winds up covering the surgery, I will refund every penny raised, minus the fees that are taken out. I'm not asking for help with flights or hotel or all the extra stuff that will go along with this. Most of that I can put on my cc and I'm fortunate to have family with travel benefits that are willing and able to help me. But for the surgery, and the hospital, and the anesthesiologist, and the pathology, and consult, I have to be able to pay cash before they'll touch me. Breakdown of out-of-pocket cost and payment deadlines below:

Surgeon (consult, surgery, medications, followup) - $6,772 by July 17

Hospital (bloodwork, operation room, medications and 1 night stay) - $5,400 by July 24

Anesthesiologist (pre-op, surgery and post-op recovery) - $935 by July 26

Pathology (to ensure all mesh was removed) - $110 by July 31

My focus is on getting this stuff out of me, and short of robbing a bank, I will do whatever I have to in order to make this happen. If you have something I can help you with, please reach out to me. My physical abilities are very limited, but I'm great on a computer and very goal oriented when tasked with marketing, editing, writing, research, or similar things. Help me, let me help you!

If you can't donate, please consider sharing my fundraiser to help me out.

If you want to read a little bit more about what I'm going through, please feel free to reference this article, I'm the second story:

And finally, whether you support me or not, DO NOT EVER EVER EVER let anyone put any kind of mesh in you! Not enough people talk about the problems that would prompt a doctor telling you that you need mesh, but I promise, it's more common than you know, and there ARE other options! Don't be naive like I was, do your research and stay away from mesh!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your love, encouragement, prayers, and support through all of this. Hopefully in just a few more months I'll be back to being me, and we shall have to celebrate together!

Want more ways to show some support? DFW locals can come out to have a good time and win some prizes for a good cause at my raffle fundraiser party on July 14! Find details and rsvp here:
