Jen’s Upcoming Surgery @ The Markey Cancer Center

Hi everyone! In case you haven’t been following my recent FB updates, I just returned from Lexington, KY a few days ago.

While there I had my 1st appt with Dr. Lowell B. Anthony, Chief, Division of Medical Oncology at the Markey Cancer Center.  He is an AMAZING physician!  He was very thorough when discussing my cancer. He was very calm & cool.  Joking here & there to lighten the mood.  He was a much-needed breath of fresh air!

He set me up with a CT Scan that concentrated on my adrenal glands so that the medical staff could see exactly what’s happening with me. Then he told me about a surgeon that he knew would be “the one” for my case. We setup an appointment for the following day with that surgeon, Dr. William B. “Barry” Inabnet.

My appointment with Dr. Inabnet & his APRN, Donna, went very smoothly.  Dr. Anthony was right-I LOVED Dr. Inabnet!  He was so kind.  He explained everything in great detail because he wanted me to understand exactly what’s happening with this cancer & the steps to be taken so I can move forward with treatment.  He went over the results of the CT Scan I had the day before & had some great news!  He said he didn’t see an actual tumor on my right adrenal gland (as has been thought to be there after results of a PET Scan done last December).  He said he only saw a thickening of the gland.  He also said the nodule on my right lower lobe was stable.

We then began discussing surgery-it’s mandatory.  I was hoping for other types of treatment but that’s just not in the cards.  Dr. Inabnet made me feel completely confident about the impending surgery.  It’s not going to be as complicated as I was told it would be by a different surgeon.  The plan is to perform a laparoscopic procedure & he will have a team on standby in case it becomes more serious & an incision has to be made.

My surgery is scheduled for April 10th-SOON!  It’ll be done in Lexington at UK Chandler Hospital.  I’ll have to stay 2-3 nights.  My Mom & Carver will have to be with me this trip & I’ll be needing their help for sure.  Carver will probably have to miss that entire week of school. We’ll have to put our dogs in a kennel while we’re gone, too. Mom, Carver, and I will have to stay in the hotel beginning April 9th.  Then it’ll be Mom & Carver at the hotel for 2-3 nights while I’m an inpatient after surgery. So we’ll probably need a hotel for 4-5 nights total. All of this is going to cost a pretty penny to say the least! All of the traveling to past appointments has taken a huge toll on me financially, already.

Asking for help with money is something I can’t stand doing, but this is about saving my life. My pride has to take a backseat right now. I’m humbly asking for any help that you can give us for this upcoming trip to Lexington for my surgery in the next few weeks. Anything & everything is appreciated SO, SO MUCH!  Your prayers, good vibes & well wishes have been & will continue to be remembered & taken to heart!

I love all of you SO MUCH that are helping me to get through this trying time in my life!  I can never say how much!  Please continue to pray for my health.  Please also remember my parents-this is hard on them having a child that’s sick.  And please pray especially for Carver.  This is a lot for him at only 16.  He lost his dad when he was only 10.  Now his mom is sick.  He shouldn’t have to go through this!

Love, Jen
