Jen's Page for Prostate Cancer UK - Chris Hoy's Tour de 4
For those unfortunate enough to have known me for a while, you’ll be all too familiar with my begging emails. Well, sorry to say, I’m at it again.
I’m not trekking the heights of Mont Blanc or hiking a hilly marathon in The Dales this time. Instead, I’m taking to two wheels and cycling in the Sir Chris Hoy ‘Tour de 4’ event on Sunday, 7th September. I’ll be covering 90km and almost 4,000ft of elevation, including the infamous Tak Ma Doon hill in the Carron Valley (if you don’t know it, trust me when I say it’s nasty!).
As you know, I’ve long been a supporter of both Maggie’s Centres and CoppaFeel! breast cancer charity, raising lots of money over the years in memory of my amazing Mum. This time, I’m proudly fundraising for Prostate Cancer UK following my Dad’s treatment for the disease during the pandemic in 2020. While that was a pretty scary time to be going through treatment, I’m delighted to say he’s still clear of cancer 5 years on and the success of his radiotherapy and hormone treatment is, in no small part, down to the endless research and testing carried out by amazing charities like this.
Starting and finishing at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow, the event has been designed by Chris to bring together people directly or indirectly affected by cancer, demonstrating that a Stage 4 diagnosis like his, while devastating, doesn't define the limits of what's possible…and of course to raise vital funds for incredible charities at the same time.
If you can spare a few pounds, it’d be very much appreciated. If not, I could really use all your positive vibes to get me up that hill on the day. Both contributions are equally welcome!
Thanks (again) everyone,
Jen. X
