Jenny’s Service Dog and Wheelchair
Donation protected
About five years ago, my wife, Jenny Glenn, starting experiencing unusual symptoms. It took years to get a solid diagnosis of Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). FND is the second most common reason people visit a neurologist (after headaches).
At first, she experienced widespread pain, then debilitating fatigue. After that she began limping on one leg because her knee would buckle mid-gait. Then the tremors came, then myoclonus (jerking, sometimes quite violent) in her legs, arms, and especially her head. After that came a slew of cognitive difficulties like short term memory loss, difficulty with conversations, and dissociation. FND also affects her bladder and bowel, her vision, and her hearing. Most recently there has been a marked decline, especially in regards to mobility and stamina.
Thankfully, she found an Assistance Dog organization in Columbia, SC that trains dogs for mobility, PTSD, and autism. After a very long approval process, she was accepted as a client. Just last week, she was notified that her dog is ready to begin team training with her on November 4, 2019.
Although it takes upwards of $30,000 to train a dog, PAALS - Palmetto Animal Assisted Life Services- asks only for their clients to fundraise the $5000 it costs for team training. To donate directly to PAALS on Jenny’s behalf, go here: https://youtu.be/iwQnM2zSBp4
This gofundme has been created to cover the other expenses for Jenny. Donate here if you’d be willing to:
- Sponsor one night in a hotel during training ($130 per night for ten nights)
- Sponsor an electric wheelchair so she can continue to be mobile outside the house ($2200)
- Sponsor the kennel, a cushion inside, and other amenities ($250)
- Sponsor one year of dog health insurance ($475)
- Sponsor gasoline, meals, and sundries during travel (any amount)
It will mean so much to Jenny and all of our family to have some help with these needs.
Anything that is raised above the posted amount will go into a savings account earmarked for her service dog.
Please share this with others. Thank you all so much!
