For the last year, I've been in and out of different doctor's offices looking for help. For the longest time, I've been told that 'nothing was wrong' with me, even though I could no longer find the energy to get out of bed, among a plethora of other symptoms.
Not only do I feel horrific, but my eyesight in the right eye is now deteriorating. At times I go blind, other times I can't see what I think is center. Also, my speech when I'm tired has degraded. I can no longer think to form words, my tongue doesn't want to form the right shapes, and I stutter. It's all getting worse so quickly, that I am in desperate need of getting treatment.
Then, a month or so ago, I finally had an MRI that proved that my pituitary had a tumor and that all the symptoms I've had, finally had a cause. The only endocrinologists in the state are in the Denver area, six hours from us. I had an online appointment with one, who if I had researched beforehand, I would have never gone to. She's a horrible doctor, with just as horrible of reviews.
This led me to reach out to the community of other pituitary sufferers for recommendations. They suggested Dr. Speed. He's out of Fort Collins, seven hours away, and I have to drive there and have an in-person appointment.
I'm scheduled for September 10th with Dr. Speed.
We do not have a reliable car that can make it to Fort Collins, nor do we have the cash to pay for a car rental or a hotel room.
This is where I'm asking for help.
I was warned that I may need to make at least two trips up there for this...
I'm already planning on having to make trips up to denver for my double mastectomy and hysterectomy, and we just can't swing the travel costs.
So, not only is the money for this trip, but the next and for my surgeries.
A car rental, gas, and hotel room will be about $500 each trip. $4,000 should help me to get to four to six appointments in the coming months.
Below is the information on my genetic testing.
I'm BRCA1 positive.
As some of you know and I'm sure some don't, my mother was 36 when she developed triple-negative breast cancer. She was 42 when she died from a combination of both breast and ovarian cancers.
My brother also had a brain tumor that killed him at the age of 6, possibly linked to the same BRCA1 gene that killed my mom.
In April of this year, I was diagnosed with Melanoma. Three melanomas and one basal cell carcinomas to be exact. This led to an oncologist visit, that led to genetic testing.
As soon as the testing came back positive for the mutation, and with my personal and familial history, my doctors are all a little alarmed. They want to remove all the problem areas as soon as possible before I too develop breast or ovarian cancer.
