Hey Everyone,
As most of you know, I have continued out of pocket medical expenses, related to my double lung transplant and my underlying disease: lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM). Many times these expenses exceed my financial capabilities, and this is one of those times.
I have to make another trip to UPenn for a lymphatic procedure in mid October. This is disappointing, but the fact that I’ve gone a year with zero issues has really given me my life back. Over the last year I’ve been able to work part time as a substitute teacher, as well as a tutor and I even worked a retail job through the summer. Working has been amazing for me! I’ve gained a sense of independence (which I wasn’t sure I’d have again), and being around people (especially kids/teens)has been amazing for my mental health! I even worked hard through the spring to meet the requirements to become a special education teacher through alternate certification, but I was unable to accept a job this year because the lymphatic leak reappeared. With the onset of the lymphatic issues, I have been needing paracentesis twice a week and I am unable to work except for picking up a sub job here and there when my body is cooperating. My kidneys have taken a big hit, and my protein is low so I’m having all of the normal side effects including fatigue, nausea, bloating, minor pain-the normal “yucky all the time” feeing.
Being unable to work has left me very strapped and I’m scraping this month to pay bills. My car required $500 worth of repairs just a couple of weeks ago which my dad generously helped pay for, and now I have major medical travel expenses which is why I’m reaching out for help.
I’m setting a goal of $2000- as I need to cover expenses while I’m gone (sometimes 2+ weeks) and my travel expenses. I will need two one way tickets which are around $200 each way, as well as several nights at the transplant house at $45/night (such a blessing that is available to me in Philly). Then there will be meals, transportation in philly (Uber/lyft) and boarding Sophie or hiring a dog sitter for an extended period and paying some bills before I go, including: car insurance and my power bill which equal around $400.
I am so grateful for the outpouring of generosity, love and support y’all have given me over the past five years. It’s a small bump in the road, which we are to expect, but on November 23, I will celebrate my 5 year transplant anniversary!!! I didn’t believe I would make it 5 days, or 5 months and the fact that I am here, celebrating 5 years of progress is a miracle- and all of you have played a part in my journey!
I always appreciate all of the prayers, love and positive vibes that you send my way- they keep us going when times are tough. Now is no exception.
Please donate or share if you are so inclined, every little bit helps!
I also have Venmo: @jennysarahpeck
I’m so grateful for all of you..
Much Love,
