MNDA & Freddie's Fund

In a moment of madness, I have decided to take a last minute place in the Brighton Marathon, taking place on Sunday 14th April 2019.
Why?
Why on earth have I signed up just 11 weeks before running a full marathon (26.2 miles) having not run anywhere close to this distance in almost 10 years? There is one very strong and compelling reason...
My mate Crispy...
My wonderful friend Crispy (Mike Crisp) was officially diagnosed with Motor Neurones Disease in October 2016 when his baby Freddie was just 9 months old.
What's MND?
If you don't know about MND / ALS (remember the Ice Bucket Challenge?? that was to raise funds and awareness for this illness, although most people remembered getting soaked in ice cold water). It is a terminal illness. The horrible disease leads to weakness and wasting of the muscles, causing loss of mobility in the limbs, difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing.
There is unlikely to ever be a cure for ALS but specialists are convinced they will be able to manage it and extend the life expectancy considerably with research and funding. At the moment the life expectancy rate is 2 - 5 years from diagnosis.
2.5 years in, Crispy is battling this disease like a complete HERO with his amazing wife Becky by his side, raising their awesome little dude Fredster.
Fundraising
My fundraising efforts are two-fold. I have been 'lucky' enough to get my place in the sold out Brighton Marathon through the MNDA charity who are doing amazing work in research, support and awareness for MND. In return for my place I have to raise £450 for the charity. However I wanted to do something that would directly benefit the Crisps and raise funds for an account they have set up in the name of Freddie. 'Freddies Fund'. Crispy is self-employed (makes great websites if you need one) and is continuing to work to bring in a monthly income, this is getting harder and harder for him as the disease brings unwanted complications. Becky works full time whilst caring for Crispy and Freddie (she must be knackered, I honestly don't know how she functions). SO, I want to do my bit by doing this major physical and mental challenge. It's the least I can do!
But it's 26.2 miles people. 26.2 MILES!!!! That's a long bloody way.
I'm desperate to raise over £450 so that Mike and his wonderful family can benefit directly now and in the future. Every pound you donate will make each training run and the big one itself so much sweeter. This is the only reason I'm doing it.
If you want to know more about Crispy's journey, he has written a number of amazing blogs (you'll need a box of tissues). You can find them at www.painintheals.co.uk
Thank you so much for reading, and thanks in advance for your support. I will do my very best to raise as much as I can.
