We are reaching out to ask for support for the family of Jenny Balcarras and her daughter, Selah Reed, following an unimaginable tragedy.
Jenny and Selah were tragically found deceased on a trail near Bella Coola, BC, after being attacked by a bear. This sudden and heartbreaking loss has left their family and loved ones devastated.
Jenny had recently made the move to Bella Coola to pursue a new career and begin a new chapter in her life. She was working toward building a future and had not yet had the opportunity to establish savings or put aside funds to help her family with unexpected expenses such as these. Tragically, no one could have anticipated that her family would be faced with such an unimaginable loss.
Selah was just 20 years old, with her whole life ahead of her. She was only beginning her journey into adulthood, making this loss even more heartbreaking.
Jenny leaves behind three young adult children — a son and two daughters — as well as a grandchild. They are now faced with the devastating loss of their mother and sister while also having to navigate the unexpected financial burden of arranging funeral services and covering the associated expenses for both Jenny and Selah.
We are hoping to ease some of that burden by raising funds to help cover funeral costs and other expenses associated with bringing Jenny and Selah home and laying them to rest.
Any contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a meaningful difference and help give this family the opportunity to grieve without the added stress of overwhelming financial responsibilities. If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with others would also mean so much.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support during this incredibly difficult time. Every donation, share, and kind thought is deeply appreciated as we come together to support Jenny and Selah's family.
Note about the organizer: Some people have asked that I state who I am / how I am connected to the family so they can verify the fundraiser. Jenny's brother Josh is my brother-in-law. I am organizing this on behalf of the family. Thank you to everyone who has forwarded this on, and/or donated.
Update November 3rd PM: Conservation officers / RCMP have confirmed they found the remains of both Jenny and Selah are now looking for the bear(s).
