Jenny and Jon's IVF Journey

Donation protected
Thank you for helping us start our family. Jon and I are so grateful that you would take the time to read about our story and help us create a miracle.

Jon and I first met 7 years ago in the rooms of recovery. There's something about connecting in a place of healing that creates an inseparable bond. The bond that Jon and I have proves time and time again that we can face any storm that comes our way and weather it together. It was in this recovery meeting that our friends had a hunch we might hit it off, and so they strategically left only two seats open next to each other. Jon and I had to sit together. The second his arm brushed against mine I felt fireworks.

Years later, Jon and I were on the beach in Carmel when he got down on one knee in the sand. It was a cold crisp fall evening, and I didn’t realize what was happening, so I said to him, “You should really get up, you’re going to get your pants dirty before dinner.” As he started talking, and I saw the ring, I realized what was happening, and so did the people having a bonfire near us who came over to film the moment. I knew forever had just begun.

Our wedding was absolutely beautiful and beyond anything I could have ever imagined. We were married in a beautiful setting, surrounded by those we love. I was overwhelmed in gratitude at how many people deeply cared for us, and supported us in our marriage. Excited for this new chapter, we began to look at planning a family. A family is something both of us had always wanted individually, so it was natural that this would be our next exciting step.

A few months later we got the news that I wouldn’t be able to get pregnant naturally and that we were facing infertility challenges. The news weighed heavy on our hearts and the hearts of our loved ones. It was especially heartbreaking because when I was a baby, I was placed in foster care and eventually adopted. However, I have never lived with biological relatives of any kind, making having a child of my own carry even more weight. It was also then that we realized the cost to have a child of our own would be about $40,000.00. The high cost due to our insurance companies not covering any of the countless doctor’s appointments, medications, medical procedures, blood draws, analysis, etc.

Jon works at a detox facility helping addicts and alcoholics transition into the world of recovery. I serve our community by working with adults with disabilities and county mental health clients. Both Jon and I volunteer our time to help others in the community outside of our careers. While we believe wholeheartedly in the work that we do, it unfortunately does not afford expenses like these. Having a family means so much to us. We never anticipated that something that comes so naturally for most would be such a challenge for us.

We’re so grateful for the community that we have and even if donating is not in the cards for you, we appreciate you listening to our story and keeping us in your thoughts. Should you wish to contribute in helping us start a family, you can donate or donate anonymously on this platform. You can also venmo @JennyK1211 if that is your preferred method.
