Jenn’s Fight for Independence After Losing Her Parents
Jennifer Trotta has worked her entire life to break through the limits of her physical disability. This year, in just four short months, she lost her mother, her father, and her job. Now, while grieving, she faces two funerals, mounting medical bills, home repair expenses, and an urgent need to make her home more accessible for her disability. All this is happening while her unemployment runs out, and she tries to find work in a difficult job market. Please give what you can to help ease her burden as she works towards stability and independence.
Full Story
Please help, Jennifer Trotta, as she has endured more heartbreak in just a few months than most of us face in a lifetime. Between March and July of 2025, she lost both of her parents, along with her job due to contract ending . A breast cancer survivor who has lived all her life with a physical disability, Jennifer is now navigating profound grief while facing the challenges of living on her own for the very first time.
Jennifer’s story is one of resilience. She holds both a BA and an MBA and built a long career in the pharmaceutical industry, working to improve drug safety. She is funny, kind, generous, and brilliant—a person who always gives of herself. Despite living with a disability, she has never let it limit her drive or spirit. She supported her parents not just with love but also financially, covering much of the household and medical expenses from her own salary and savings.
Her mother, Louise Trotta, was her constant support and best friend—cooking, cleaning, and being her daily companion. In March of 2025, at age 80, my Aunt Louise was overcome by congestive heart failure; she was rushed to the ICU of their local hospital. She was put on a ventilator; the prognosis was grim, and she passed away only a couple of weeks later.
Just one day after Aunt Louise was admitted to the hospital, Jennifer’s father, John Trotta, a proud Marine Corps veteran and retired iron worker, fell and was hospitalized in the same hospital as his wife. Already struggling with dementia, his health declined quickly, and he passed away in July.
Now, for the first time in her life, Jennifer is truly alone and facing serious difficulties. Her home—once filled with the love, care, and laughter of her parents—feels overwhelming without their presence. At the same time, she is facing the expiration of her unemployment benefits while searching for work in a job market where remote opportunities, critical for someone with her disability, are increasingly rare due to return-to-office mandates.
We, her family and friends, are asking for your help to raise $115,000 to cover Jennifer’s basic monthly expenses for the next year, giving her the stability and breathing room she needs to grieve, heal, and find work to support herself. Any funds not needed for immediate expenses will go toward accessibility improvements to her home, so she can continue to live independently and safely. We are starting this fundraiser to help ease some of the burdens Jennifer is carrying right now. The funds will go directly toward:
- Funeral and medical expenses for her parents
- Home repairs and accessibility modifications, here are a few examples:
- a replacement for the home’s original furnace, which is failing and will not make it to this winter
- replacements for failing kitchen appliances
- an accessible bathtub in the main bathroom
- Essential household bills and mortgage payments
- Support while she transitions to stable employment
Jennifer has spent her life giving to others—supporting her parents, her colleagues, and her community. Now she needs our help. Please consider donating and sharing this campaign to help her stay in her home and regain her footing during this incredibly difficult time.
Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference.
