Jennifer’s Bucket List Fund

If you’ve been reading posts on my Facebook page for any part of the last two years, you have likely seen updates that my sister, Jennifer, has posted. Jennifer was diagnosed in September, 2019, with small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma, basically stage IV of an extremely aggressive and rare cancer, which had already metastasized.

Jennifer’s strength and determination through these last two years continually takes my breath away. She continues to show what a truly amazing warrior she is. Make no mistake: the battles have not been easy, most especially her last round of chemo that knocked her down for months on end. Months in which we all wondered whether we would see the improvements we had grown used to seeing after chemo cycles. Again, though, Jennifer stood up, metaphorically, from being knocked down, but that last round of chemo has had adverse lasting effects. As Jennifer has mentioned she has severe neuropathy in her hands and feet, so she has trouble with any fine motor skills with her hands and cannot walk without assistance, using a wheelchair almost all of the time now.

Now, at her last doctor’s appointment on Monday, we heard what we had really known from the start: it is now a quality of life choice for Jennifer in considering any further treatment options as the doctors have tried all that they can. What remains as Jennifer’s doctor so directly said to us in her appointment is to live every day the best she can and to do all of the things that she can on her bucket list.

Bucket list items tend to be the “extras” in life - vacations, day trips, frivolities. Jennifer’s energy has been laser focused on healing and feeling better; she has not been too frivolous lately. Additionally, those vacations and fun things cost money, and Jennifer hasn’t been working in quite some time. She does have home bills and medical expenses covered right now. She has her funeral expenses covered. However, there isn’t any income or finances for “fun.”

This is where I can help her right now. With some fun. With her bucket list. With filling up her adventure book.

  • She would LOVE to see Tom Brady play in person. Of course, she would also LOVE to meet Tom Brady and get his autograph and maybe even a picture with him; none of you who know my sister will be surprised by any of this. She loves her some Tom Brady!! If you know anyone who could help with any of this, please let us know!
  • Jennifer wants to be able to take some trips with her kids, Jozlyn and Jaden. They have spoken of traveling to Orlando, Florida. Those of you who know me, know that I know how to plan trips to Orlando! ;)
  • My sister also mentioned loving scenery and being able to sit and enjoy the scenery at the beach or a mountain cabin by a lake.
  • She wants to hear about small day trips she can take with her kids. One thing we have talked about doing is going to this place where we can get out some of the anger at cancer that we have by smashing things with bats and hammers!!
  • Jennifer loves dolphins and pandas and would love to have a chance to swim with dolphins or pet a panda. I don’t even know if that second one is an option anywhere, but if you know something about either, please share!
  • Some big and wild ideas Jennifer mentioned to me was traveling across the country in an RV and stopping when the feeling strikes. Maybe she wants to see the world’s largest frying pan or ball of yarn? Jennifer also said to me just last night that she wants to go to Paris and see the Eiffel Tower in person.

I don’t know how many of these things that I can help her do, but I would like to help her with as much as I can. So, I come to you and humbly request that you consider giving to Jennifer’s Bucket List Fund which will go to making some of her dreams come true of travelling with her family and taking in a few last adventures together. Any funds remaining after her travels will go to take care of Jozlyn and Jaden. We would greatly appreciate any contribution that you can make to this fund so that we can take Jennifer on these adventures and fill up her adventure book. Thank you for all of the love and support you have shown Jennifer and us - all of her family - so far. We love you and appreciate you!
