Jennifer Goulding
is already a two time cancer survivor,
but her fight goes on... the Cancer is back...
In 2007, Jennifer was diagnosed with stage 4, Non Hodgkins Lymphoma.
Her Son Gavyn was just 1 years old. She received 6 rounds of aggressive chemo, followed by 5 weeks of daily radiation . Her tumor was the size of a bowling ball on her left hip. She had to rely on family and friends to help with her son, they would bring him to the hospital to be with her although unable to hold him. By the grace of God, the cancer went into remission and Jennifer was able to hold her baby boy and continue to be the mom she had always dreamnt be.
2014, Jennifer was diagnosed with Stage 4 , Hodgkins/T cell cancer.
Two separate kinds of cancer, required a specialist. She was told she only had about a 40% chance to go into remission. She had fought too hard the first time to just accept this. . Gavyn was now 8 years old and a good friend to my son Ben. Jennifer and I coached our boys soccer team together. I learned of her prior cancer only after she became sick this go round. She hadn't been feeling well when I would see her at drop off at the school, she had been loosing too much weight. Her battle with cancer a 2nd time had begun. She went on to receive chemo once again, all the while staying in her Bubble while experiencing many complications. She would spend more time in the hospital than she would at home. All she could think about was her son and wanting him to focus on being a kid. She told me she would promise herself to find one good thing about each day to keep her going. The doctors approached her with the possibility of doing a stem cell transplant, to grow healthy new cells to replace the cancerous ones. it would raise her odds by 20%. Again, she would experience major complications and was rushed off to the hospital for life saving measures. She knew she had her son counting on her to fight no matter what. Once stable, The harvest was successful . She was able to use her own stem cells. Chemo was more aggressive than ever. A week had passed and she was able to receive her transplant, 17 days later her prayers were answered as her counts continued to rise and she was on her way to recovery and again able to return home to her son Gavyn and Husband Paul.
2020, Jennifer has now been diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma
(head & neck cancer)
it started with an ear infection that got so bad it required surgery . The aftermath of this surgery caused her to lose what little hearing she had. She kept telling her doctors it felt like something was still in her ear. After further testing , they came back with the diagnosis of cancer. She had a tumor the size of a baseball behind her ear and it has pushed her jaw out of place. She gave immediate notice to her work place. The family has been going through real struggle trying to communicate with one another. She found some apps, got a whiteboard and is now trying to teach Paul and Gavyn basic sign language. She is good at reading lips, but with COVID, masks sure make it difficult.
She has since undergone radiation. In order to isolate the area to be treated, they made a mask of her face that goes flush against her face, she lays on a table strapped in for 30 min. Her last session was July 13, Jennifer was able to RING THE BELL as she walked out of the hospital. She also is having chemo, having had her first round after the second round of radiation . She ended up back in the hospital when it was too much for her body due to low potassium and not being able to eat. She is now at home with a feeding tube. Next round of Chemo scheduled for August 6th.
Jennifer will receive a scan on August 3rd to see how her body is responding so far to therapy. She says she has so many mixed emotions and is trying not to think negative. She will be kept busy in the mean time with physical therapy and speech therapy. Jennifer knows she has a long road ahead of her to get back to somewhat normal. Her complete hearing loss has been traumatic in so many ways, but as usual, She looks for her silver linings, and always finds one.
Jennifer and her family have experienced far too many years of Medical scares with her cancer, I reach out to you to help her relieve the burden and stress of medical bills, hospital, in home care, rehabilitation fees and so much more. She is not able to collect unemployment as she had left her job the moment she became ill.
Those of you that know Jennifer, know that she is the most loving , caring mother. Gavyn is her world. She is one of the hardest workers I know, always there for me when I needed her to help run a school event! Her favorite job is always Popcorn lady! She continues to keep her sense of humor and her stubborn ways of not slowing down, but right now she does not have a choice.
We are behind you Jennifer as you continue your fight with what we are praying to be your final battle with cancer! You got this!
