Hi,
My name is Tiffany, and I'm trying to find a way to help my sister Jennifer who has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Jenn is 35 and a mother of 3 young children ages 11, 8, and 3. She and her husband will have many medical and everyday family expenses along the way. Jenn recently started a new job two months before being diagnosed with cancer. She ultimately had to resign from her position due to the side effects of chemo and could not qualify for FMLA. Her doctor felt it was best if she focused on her health as she has a long road ahead.
- My sister, Jenn, noticed a lump on her left breast in February. She had gone to her doctor, who had reassured her that it was normal after stopping pumping and no tests were ordered. Jenn went back in April because she thought the lump had gotten bigger. Her doctor once again told her that it was anxiety, that she was fine, and no tests were ordered aside from recommending anxiety medicine. On June 5th, while doing a self examine, she noticed significant changes and dimpling under her left breast. The next day she called her doctor's office, who made her an appointment immediately to come in the next day. She had a mammogram, ultrasound, and a few biopsies completed that day. The radiologist diagnosed Jennifer without needing to wait for biopsy results. He advised she had advanced stage Brest Cancer that had also spread to her lymph nodes. On June 10th, her doctor called her and told her that she had advanced-stage breast cancer. My sister was devastated. She is undergoing chemo, preparing for a double mastectomy around Christmas time, six weeks of radiation to follow, possibly additional Chemo, and reconstruction surgeries. Due to chemo side effects, she will require heart function tests every three months for the rest of her life. She is ultimately looking at at least a year or more of treatment to fight this disease.
We are trying to help her in any way possible to get through this difficult time. Any little bit of help can make a significant difference for their family.
