Jennifer Swatzke’s Eye Surgeries

Aloha, I am Chris Burke partner in life and in business with my love Jennifer Swatzke. Together we created a wonderful Maui business called Maui Kombucha. That quickly became a community corner stone for many Maui locals and tourist alike. Jenn worked very hard and sacrificed a lot in life and in her health to create Maui Kombucha Vegan Cafe a place for our local community to gather. In February Jenn ended up in the hospital we believe from a Brown Recluse spider bite. It ended up infecting her bloodstream and causing an internal strep infection. She was in ICU for over 10 days at Maui Memorial and in the hospital for over 2 1/2 weeks. The internal infection caused her to have to go on IV anabiotic‘s, which probably saved her life but she has lost her eyesight in the process from the infection. We have had multiple appointments with wonderful doctors here on Maui and on Oahu and we have at least two eye surgeries to help regain her vision . Her surgeons are hopeful to get some vision back in her left eye, but they have not given a positive prognosis for the right eye. We have been doing everything we can to rebuild her system she went from a very healthy 140 pound bright blue-eyed, vibrant person to an incredibly weakend, hundred pound fragile person. I have been her primary caregiver and do my best to continue to take the best care of her I can and also keep our business running to help pay the medical bills, and all of lifes expenses, She’s been getting biweekly physical therapy to rebuild her strength weekly doctors appointments with her eye surgeon IV therapy twice weekly to strengthen her system as well as many other vitamins, and supplements homeopathic‘s, and other natural remedies. She have also been getting regular acupuncture and chiropractic and supplements to round out a holistic healing practice for her. We have a long road ahead, but we are hopeful and positive.
