As of a few weekends ago, I became certified as an instructor to teach Adult, Child, and Infant CPR/First Aid/AED through the Red Cross!
My main objective in becoming an instructor is to teach these valuable skills to as many people in the community as possible but with a special focus on teaching parents, doulas, and childcare providers of all types!
I've been getting certified and recertified in CPR/First Aid since the age of 14 as I feel it's not only important as a childcare provider, parent, and postpartum doula to know these skills, but also just as a responsible member of the community in which I reside! I've had many occasions where I have personally used my skills to help someone who has been injured and on a few occasions, I have saved lives (including both of my own accident-prone children!).
While the first hurdle is over, I now need to come up with the money needed to cover the costs of training materials and supplies that it will take to help me achieve my goal of getting as many people trained as possible—starting with those who are often with children—Nannies, babysitters, doulas, and parents! In order to teach a class size of 4-12 people, I need 4 sets of the mannequins (adult, infant, CPR mask, first aid training kit, AED trainers) as well as the instructor manuals. I will also be teaching the additional life-saving skills on inhaler, Epi-pen, and Narcan use—all requiring necessary training kits.
Additionally Inwill be teaching teenage babysitters and lifeguards.
While many of my class participants will pay for the class, it will be a nominal fee, much of which goes to the Red Cross. It's my goal to offer several free classes per year to the community for those who only want to be trained vs those needing certification for work or licenses. The faster I can get the necessary materials, the faster I can help people learn! Thank you for your support!
