Jennifer “Jenny” Casey Nickles, a free spirit, gone too soon.
My name is Tim Casey, one of Jenny’s 8 brothers and sisters. Our beloved sister Jenny passed away April 29th. It was less than 3 months ago she was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a brain tumor. Due to its size and location, surgery wasn’t an option and basically there was no treatment that would be of much help. Jenny decided not to do radiation and chemo and wanted to be at home in Egg Harbor Township, NJ, with her 2 daughters by her side.
In February she flew up from Florida to be tested at Atlantic Care Hospital in NJ. After diagnosis she was transferred from Atlantic Care to Cooper University Hospital in Camden with the hope that she could be treated by MD Anderson Cancer Center. After surgery to implant a shunt and spending several weeks at Cooper University Hospital and consulting with the tumor specialists at MD Anderson, Jenny decided she wanted to be at home.
In going through her medical coverage from One Share, a health care sharing ministry, it was discovered that the coverage was minimal. The maximum benefit would be $150,000. Jenny was young and fit and riding her Harley all over the U.S., which factored in her decision to choose the least amount of coverage, never suspecting such a catastrophic illness. As our sister Betsy said, this turned out to be the “perfect storm.”
Jenny’s daughters, Jessie and Jenna, have received over $400,000 in medical bills so far, and there are bills still coming in. We are hoping that One Share can negotiate a reduction in some of the bills, but even if that occurs there will most likely still be a huge balance.
In order to help with mounting medical bills, we will be selling Jenny’s fifth wheel, pickup truck and motorcycle after paying off the amounts owed. It is our hope that enough financial assistance could be obtained to prevent the loss of Jenny’s house in Egg Harbor Township so that her daughter Jenna can continue to stay in her home.
Your donation of any amount will be greatly appreciated.
