Jennifer Needs Your Help: Critical Surgery

My name is Dante, and this campaign is for Jennifer, my girlfriend's (Angie) older sister. Jennifer is 28 years old, a young woman living in Ecuador who had to take on responsibilities that weren’t hers, caring for her siblings and facing life with courage, never giving up. Today, Jennifer is facing a new and difficult challenge that puts her well-being and future at risk. Recently, Jennifer was diagnosed with an intramedullary tumor in her cervical spinal cord — an extremely delicate condition that is affecting her mobility and quality of life.

Jennifer is currently experiencing muscle weakness, numbness, and tingling on the left side of her body, making it increasingly difficult for her to walk. Her condition is becoming more critical each day, and she is at serious risk of permanently losing her mobility if the surgery is not performed in time.

Due to the complexity of the case, this surgery cannot be performed in public hospitals in Ecuador. It requires a highly specialized procedure, advanced technology, and neurosurgeons with expertise in spinal cord surgeries — resources that, unfortunately, are not available within the country’s public healthcare system.

After consulting with several specialists, we were faced with a painful reality:

The only option to save Jennifer is private surgery, which costs $12,000 USD — not including medications, hospital stay, or the rehabilitation process afterward.

This amount is impossible for Jennifer and Angie to afford on their own. Both have already endured heartbreaking losses: Jennifer lost her father to a tumor that later evolved into a stomach cancer in the pylorus region, and just a few days ago, they also lost their mother. Angie has been her only source of emotional and financial support, but she is now in debt after covering their mother’s funeral expenses using credit cards.

It deeply pains us to ask for help, but we have no other choice. We need your support to give Jennifer a chance at living a normal life again — a chance to not suffer the same fate as her parents.

Hoy, Jennifer enfrenta una nueva y difícil prueba que pone en juego su bienestar y su futuro. Hace poco, Jennifer fue diagnosticada con un tumor intramedular en la médula espinal cervical, una condición extremadamente delicada que está afectando su movilidad y su calidad de vida.

Se requiere una operación de alta especialización, con tecnología avanzada y neurocirujanos expertos en médula espinal, algo que lamentablemente no está disponible en el sistema de salud pública del país.

Después de consultar con varios especialistas, nos enfrentamos a una dura realidad:

La única alternativa para salvar a Jennifer es una cirugía privada, cuyo costo asciende a $12.000 USD, sin contar medicamentos, hospitalización ni el proceso de rehabilitación posterior.

Este monto es imposible de cubrir para Jennifer y Angie. Ambas han vivido pérdidas dolorosas: Jennifer perdió a su padre por un tumor que evolucionó en cáncer de píloro, y hace pocos días, también perdieron a su madre. Angie ha sido su único sostén, emocional y económico, pero actualmente está endeudada tras costear los gastos del funeral de su madre con tarjetas de crédito.
