Please help us provide our friend, Nick Wilson, west islander and regretfully newly widowed dad, with some financial support to start his journey as a single parent.
Our dear friend, wife and mother of a 4 year old, passed in the middle of the night (May 7th). After spending 3 weeks in intensive care at Sacre Coeur Hospital and undergoing 3 surgeries, her body lost a fight against strep. Yes, strep! Streptococcus (group A strep) is one of the most common cause of necrotizing fasciitis otherwise known as “flesh-eating disease”.
On April 11th, Jen noticed she had an infected cut. She cleaned the wound and put polysporin on it, as most would have done. The next day she went into septic shock (oxygen levels were so low they could not be read by oxygen monitor). Her husband called an ambulance as she was too weak to make it to the car. That night she was induced into a coma. Strep spread so quickly, multiple surgeries had to be conducted to removed fascia necrosis (dead skin).
For those who do not know, necrotizing fasciitis is a rare illness that causes a great deal of tissue damage and can lead to death. In Canada, there are 90 to 200 cases of necrotizing fasciitis each year. It is fatal in about 20 to 30% of cases. Unfortunately, our friend lost her battle against strep. We are still in shock and completely heartbroken. We cannot begin to imagine what our friend is going through. Not only did he lose the love of his life, but also the mother of their 4 year old. Being a single parent will not only be an emotional and physical challenge, but also a financial challenge. We all know how expensive life has gotten in the last few years which is why I am taking the time to create this GoFundMe.
Please help us provide some financially support while he embarks on this new journey as a single parent. Those who would feel more comfortable donating in-person can also donate (or mail) to her work colleague, Alexandra Di Pasquo, at 4873 Westmount Ave (Marianopolis College). Our friend was not only an incredible mom, but also an incredible librarian and has helped shape many of her students at Marianopolis College where she worked as a librarian for the last 8 years.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this post. Please donate if you can afford it and/or share this fundraiser if you feel comfortable doing so. We recognize that life is expensive and tough for many, but any dollar will make a difference for them.
PS: other ideas of donations include gift cards and clothes/shoes (size 6/size 11 - she is a very tall 4 year old).
