On August 26, heaven gained another angel when Jennifer Downs, beloved wife, friend and passionate SPED teacher, passed away from complications of COVID-19 pneumonia. She had just reached a milestone 40th birthday on July 14. Her family is beyond devastated, but no one misses her as much as her husband of 17 years, Jeff.
Prior to Jenn's hospitalization in the ICU at the end of July, her father Bill, who lived with Jenn and Jeff, was placed on in-home hospice with Jeff as his support person and nurses coming two to three times a week. For two weeks, Jeff faithfully served his father-in-law while Jenn fought for her life in the hospital. Bill ultimately passed of kidney failure on Aug. 6. Struck with grief, we all remained hopeful that Jenn would pull through, but 20 days later she joined both her parents in heaven.
Jeff is understandably distraught and overwhelmed with the tremendous and unthinkable loss of both his father-in-law and wonderful wife. In addition to this grief, he is facing a grim financial future and he's lost Jenn's breadwinning income and Bill's pension. Jeff is currently employed as a groundskeeper at the local university and does not bring in enough income to pay the mortgage. Right now his mortgage is in forbearance and has been for the last few months; he has also inherited large debts as he was listed as a user on Jenn and Bills accounts, but was not the primary account holder.
Though he anticipates receiving a generous sum from Bill's life insurance, because it was Jenn's name, not his, on the policy, he has to go to court.
At this time, he desperately needs an influx of money to pay his mortgage up-to-date so he does not lose him home before he has an opportunity to sell it. He intends to downsize, but he's lost so much already, he'd like to spend one last Christmas in his wife's dream house before selling. He also needs the funds to pay lawyer fees and pay off larger debts.
Nothing can bring Jennifer or Bill back, but any financial assistance you can bless Jeff with at this time would help lift off that weight so instead of stressing about his finances, he can peacefully grieve this great loss.
