Hi, my name is Jennifer and I need your help. Imagine going to the hospital and waking up 4 days later, unable to speak, move, eat or do anything else on your own. That is exactly what happened to me almost 3 years ago now. Within a week after awakening, I could move my hands and arms to write in order to communicate with my family and the doctors but it initially came out as illegible and without comprehension. I still couldn’t speak because of the tracheotomy. Eventually, my thoughts could be deciphered. Within 3 months, I had been transferred to and from 4 different hospitals, one of which was in a different state. At this point, I was still paralyzed from right below my breasts down. The left side of my face is still partially paralyzed and my eyes are crossed.
The initial diagnosis was transverse myelitis. Now it’s neural myelitis optica with broad spectrum. After the heavy duty drugs administered at the hospitals, the prognosis was physical therapy and hopefully, between 6 months and a year, I would be able to walk again and be able to play with my granddaughters and to be rid of my constant circle of pain. To this day, I remain paralyzed. The different medications have run the gamut of making my hair fall out, changed the texture drastically and grown back much thicker than before. My teeth have now become brittle. The financial hardship for my family continues to grow and having some relief would be most appreciated. We found a doctor specializing in being able to assist in replacing my teeth and another doctor that can “uncross” my eyes. More specialists are in my future to assist in the management of my constant pain. I am asking for assistance in funding because it has been a financial turmoil on my family to try to accommodate my medical needs. Due to my lack of movement all of my clothes I am unable to fit into dued to a extensive amount of weight gain. I am asking for assistance in being able to purchase clothing . I am also in need of finances for the following airfare flights to be able to travel to doctors and extensive therapy in hopes to regain to walk again. I would be most grateful for funding for the following a van with a lift to put my wheelchair in, a new wheelchair so my family can help me to get around, cathes for a catheter. Also, briefs and to be able to obtain a hospital bed so I would be able to sleep comfortably since I am unable to move around. Thanks in advance in hearing my story and any and all donations would be greatly appreciated.
