Massive Leg Injury: Victim of Head-on Collision

Family, friends, and anyone with an open heart, thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and I appreciate you sharing with your close circles. It is with a true open heart that I share my story with you, as I find myself in true desperate need for your help.

On Jan 1st, I was the victim in a severe head on collision. I was hit by a “possibly impaired” driver at a very high speed as I waited at a red light on the opposite side of the road. I am extremely lucky to have survived this near-death experience that was both terrifying and life changing. 

My car was completely totaled and I was rushed to the hospital then entered into immediate emergency surgery. I sustained injuries to my head/face, entire body and most specifically to lower right leg. The collision created a compound open fracture of my tibia, fibula and talus (ankle joint) and multiple fractures of my metatarsals in my foot. Currently I have an external-fixator (3 metal rods through my bones) on my leg and I will be having another surgery in 2 weeks to remove them and place internal hardware. It is unclear how many surgeries I will ultimately need to regain stability, structure and function of my ankle. I’m praying this is the last one. I know I have a huge road of physical therapy ahead, but I never backed down from a challenge. 

Thank God I am alive, I clearly have a guardian angel.

Unfortunately the logistics of this situation has put me and my family and desperate place financially. I will not be able to walk, work or drive for the next 6-12 months. My sister has graciously taken me in temporarily to care for me in her home while I am still immobile. My ability to bring in income is now impacted and I will not be able to pay rent, basic utilities, groceries, medical bills or my loan. My sister and parents have been amazing in helping with what they financially are able to, but unfortunately due to the limited insurance compensation of this case I will have a huge mountain of medical bills I will be buried under. This collision was not my fault and my family and I shouldn't have to suffer it's devastating aftermath. Mine and my family's lives are now impacted financially, physically, emotionally and mentally forever.

For now I am holding strong to this verse: "I will NOT cause pain WITHOUT allowing something NEW to be born, says the Lord" Isaiah 66:9 I know this is my chance for clarity, personal growth and to use this awful experience as good in my life. Through this journey (and I’m only at the beginning) I have learned that I am stronger than I ever imagined, it is okay to admit you need help, it’s ok to accept help and it is possible to lean into change.
