Jenna’s 6th Major Heart Surgery

On January 22 my sister Jenna will be undergoing her 6th major heart surgery.
When I told her that many people were reaching out and they wanted to help, that many had suggested we start a gofundme she responded with “no, there are a lot of people a lot sicker than I am”.
Which is a very quick small example of who she is, even in this position she is considering other people.
Well, against her wishes, I’m going to raise some money for her. Let me tell you why; September 19th 1984 Jenna entered this world but it wasn’t the beautiful birth stories you hear about from the movies. From what I’ve been told, she was born purple, O2 level 39, the room was silent and Jenna was quickly rushed off to her first procedure.
Day 2 of being alive Jenna experienced her first heart surgery.
Then she had another heart surgery at 14 months old, again at four years old, another at six years old but during this surgery the surgeons reconstructed Jenna’s heart. Because of the reconstruction, Jenna’s body attacks the tissue that wasn’t originally hers, causing it to become hard and calcified like coral you would find at the beach. This then causes the pressures in her heart and her lungs to build.
When Jenna was 19 she went for another major open heart surgery to repair the calcified tissue. Adding to the thrill of it all, The scar tissue had adhered to her sternum.
So here we are 14 years later, which we all feel extremely blessed it’s been this long between surgeries. Cue the 6th Major heart surgery.
This next surgery will be taking place at Boston’s Children’s Hospital where we were recommended for the best medical care. We are so grateful to have the doctors we do there. Being that Jenna lives on Long Island this complicates somethings slightly and adds to the expenses. On top of the travel expenses, Jenna will be out of work for six months. Her and her husband Sal have two beautiful young daughters; 6 months old and 4 years old.
I truly believe in my heart that these donations will take some stress off and help, so the only worry in the moment is healing and being present.
Jenna is a sister, daughter, mother, niece, cousin and friend; who is incredibly deserving of any help we can give. If it’s a dime or a dollar any little bit will be extremely helpful at this time. We are so extremely grateful to have the support we do, thank you all so much.
