Who was Jenn?
Jenn was originally from Wasaga Beach, went to school in London Ontario and finally returned to Wasaga to start a family with her loving husband Adam Barton. Jenn was an incredibly supporting wife, a loving and compassionate sister to Liz and Susan, a fantastic and much loved daughter to Bill and Kathy, a dedicated step-mom and role model to Adam’s daughter Emma, an absolutely essential and relied-upon manager at the Water Depot, the list goes on and on. From Wasaga Beach to London and back, she’s made such a positive impact on so many. Jenns favourite things were the simple ones, spending time with her family, her cats, eating some junk food and watching movies with her husband. Even though it’s the simple things that filled her with joy, she was certainly far from a simple person. Her perspective, strength, morals and values are very powerful, Jenn is truly loved by many.
What happened to Jenn?
On January 27th 2019, her husband Adam was in Collingwood and spoke with Jenn, to let her know he was on his way home to Wasaga. When Adam arrived, Jenn was unresponsive and he called an ambulance. Once she arrived at the hospital in Collingwood it was discovered she had a massive bleed in her brain. She needed to be rushed by air to Western General in Toronto for emergency surgery. The helicopter was unable to land due to severe weather and Jenn was then further delayed.
Arriving by ambulance through the snow, ice and wind to Western General emergency surgery was performed to remove a part of her skull and relieve pressure. There was so much swelling and a large blood clot, the doctors were unable to assess her any further. After the initial surgery and despite many tests and operations Jenn continued to be unresponsive. On Tuesday March 12th, Jenns immediate family met with a social worker and, the initial surgeon to discuss Jenns condition, respecting Jenn and her wishes, Adam began the process for her to receive palliative care.
The surgeon explained that she suffered from a vascular malformation, which is essentially undetectable. This malformation led to the massive amount of bleeding and caused severe unrecoverable damage to her brain.
Jenn was transferred temporarily to the hospital in Collingwood from Western General in Toronto and finally to Campbell House nearby.
Jenn passed away on the afternoon of Saturday March 23rd.
How can you help?
Jenns steady income through the Water Depot enabled her husband Adam to be flexible with his own painting and decorating business. Without this steady stream of income and being self-employed Adam has incurred some major expenses, staying by Jenns side since January 27th until her passing in March.
Money raised so far has enabled Adam to take the time necessary to refocus, he is currently back to work full-time and working towards some sense of normalcy after this tragedy. There are still many issues that Adam and his family face financially including legal fees and most importantly the mortgage on the matrimonial home. Any funds raised gives Adam a better chance at focusing on growing his business in order to supplement the large gap in income, maintaining the mortgage, keeping on top of bills and most importantly keep the roof over his head.
Please help where you can, the family needs as much support as possible!
