Recently, a sudden flash flood devastated my niece Jenna Berry’s home in Redding, California. Jenna, her husband Michael, and their four children lost nearly everything they own. The flood caused severe damage to their home, property, barn, fences, and equipment. Jenna and three of the children were forced to escape the rushing water with nothing but the clothes they were wearing. In a matter of moments, they lost all of their clothing, personal belongings, and many of the everyday essentials most of us take for granted. While they are grateful to be safe, the loss has been both traumatic and overwhelming. Unfortunately, their insurance does not cover temporary housing, leaving them facing immediate and unexpected expenses as they try to stabilize their lives.
The funds raised will help provide temporary housing and replace essential items such as clothing, toiletries, school supplies, and basic household needs. Donations will also go toward repairing outbuildings and replacing items lost in the garage and outdoor areas—things like the children’s bikes and equipment that are not covered by insurance. Jenna and Michael are loving, generous, and deeply devoted parents. They are hardworking people who always try to see the bright side and make the best of even the most difficult situations. They are the kind of people who would be the first to step up to help a friend, neighbor, or family member in need—without hesitation. Now they are the ones in need of support.
Any contribution, no matter the size, will help this family begin to rebuild their home and restore a sense of normalcy for their children. Your kindness, prayers, and support mean more than words can express.
