My sister, Jenn Lightfoot has had her fair share of up and down’s in the past 5 years.Almost five years ago now, Jenn & her husband Trevor, were involved in a terrible, life changing event. Coming home from vacation, their airplane attempted to land in a snow storm, and experienced a plane crash at The Halifax Airport. As a result, Jenn has suffered numerous complications after sustaining a head injury from the impact.
Over the years, she has suffered from seizures. A lot of seizures. Over 300 seizures. The doctors have performed tests, procedures, and still no answers on how to diagnose and control these seizures. This has changed her life, and her family’s life drastically. Over the years, she has had many physical challenges: seizures, vision loss in her right eye, constant vision changes resulting in new eyeglasses every few months, daily migraines, shoulder injury (awaiting surgery date), and multiple medications. The cost of all these ailments continues to challenge their financial situation, especially since Jenn has been approved for permanent long term disability from her Registered Nursing job. Air Canada has not and will not contribute to any healthcare costs! She is currently attending an Acquired Brain Injury Program, Peter’s Place. Jenn has also sustained multiple injuries resulting from seizures (3rd degree burns to 10% of her body, cuts, bruises, many stitches, and hitting her head multiple times from the falls.
Her doctor has recently approved her to travel to Foothills Hospital, in Calgary for admission into the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, to further investigate the origin of these seizures to help gain control over a long-term quality of life.
She has been blessed to have the opportunity to have another chance at obtaining a diagnosis and proper treatment. MSI has agreed to cover only a portion of the travel expenses. Calgary called two days ago, requesting her to come next week!!!!
Her husband is required travel with her, and due to other unforeseen circumstances, her oldest child must attend with them, due to another heath issue that prevents him from staying home with someone other than his parents. The other two children will stay home with family members.
Jenn’s stay in hospital may be 2 weeks, most likely approaching a month or more. MSI will cover $2000 in flights, $90/night in a hotel. (not airb&b), and does NOT cover transportation or food costs.
My family has supported them through their journey, and so many friends and supports have come through with positive thoughts, love, and prayers. Due to the short notice of having to pack up half of her family to go across the country for her medical care, has posed many financial challenges today.
I am asking that is you can help donate to her care today, it would be greatly appreciated. For those who know Jenn on a personal level, once she is healthy again, she will pay it forward. Its in her nature to help, love, and support others in need. Jenn is Strong & Resilient.. Please consider helping today!
Thanks for considering & Much Love,
Lori xo
