Jeni Bard Memorial Bench
Donation protected
Hi everyone!
January 4th 2020 marks 5 years since my mother passed away in a car accident. I can't believe it will be 5 years since she has left us all. It still feels like yesterday but also an eternity altogether. Feeling like only yesterday, because that is how important she still is to me. How she still resonates with me and who I aspire to be like... how close I keep her to my heart. An eternity because of how much I've grown and been through. How much I miss her.
When you lose someone, no matter how sudden or if it's been a long time coming, it hurts all the same. You can't prepare for death. It's not something someone can help prepare you for, or provide you a handbook for. You struggle to deal with it each and everyday, in your own ways. It changes who you are and grows you as a person. With no preparation, you struggle to arrange the funerals and memorials as quickly as you can. You want to honour that person with the world and more, but sometimes that's not the case when dealing with all the behind the scenes necessities first. With that said, my mother deserves more. She deserves a place where those who knew, loved, cherished her can go and collect thoughts and memories. A place where we can feel most connected to her and to the parts of nature she loved most. A place where she was often found and was her happiest. Her place.
I've decided to get my mother her own memorial bench at Lasalle Park Marina in honour of 5 years passing. The place where she would spend countless hours with "her" swans. This bench will be available for everyone. For those who want to feel close to her. For those who want to watch the swans. For those who are going through a loss of their own and need a moment alone. For those who just need a moment alone in general. Your place.
I have started a GofundMe to raise enough money to purchase this memorial bench from the City of Burlington. I've spoken to the appropriate city department and the cost is $3,922. Please feel free to donate if you can. If you can't, I understand as well. The holidays are a tough time of year to begin with. But please still feel free to use the bench as you please. I will be donating myself weekly. My only christmas wish.
Thanks everyone! Happy Holidays.

" Donation request must be finalized by mid August for the amenity to be installed in the same calendar year. Installation of the amenity will take place in late fall. The installation schedule is dependent on many factors so the City cannot provide a specific installation date. "
