Brad & Nick’s Journey

Donation protected
As some of you may know, our incredible friend Brad was diagnosed with cancer after a tumor was discovered in his bladder in 2018. He underwent the initial surgery in September 2018 shortly after his  diagnosis, and began chemotherapy few months later.  No one, including Brad, was prepared for the roller coaster of a journey he would be embarking on, but he has been a warrior, an inspiration and our hero from day 1.

In March 2019, Brad got to ring the bell after his final round of chemo and had surgery to remove more lymph nodes and begin his recovery. Unfortunately, another CT scan would result in requiring more chemo treatments and continue this battle.

In February 2020; Brad went to the hospital due to a fever and immense pain in his lower right side.A CT would show that there was a blockage in his right kidney.  They also discovered that the immunotherapy they were trying was not working  and the cancer had spread. One of the nodes was also enlarged and blocking the right ureter. Brad continued to recover  at home and then COVID-19 hit. Brad was not feeling his best with stomach pains and digestive issues, and yet he replaced the flooring upstairs in his home (amazing!).

By mid April 2020, Brad’s scans showed more growth in his lymph nodes. Brad began to build his mental and physical strength up for chemo; however in the proceeding weeks, he incurred a number of health issues that would lead him back to the emergency. A CT scan showed the nodes had grown some more, since the last scan.

Within the following days Brad was admitted to the hospital as he was not improving  and he wasn't in any condition to do another round of chemo. Being in the hospital where he could be monitored regularly was the best course of action. Unfortunately, with all the covid-19 restrictions, the hospitals enforced a strict ‘no visitors’ policy, which was incredibly disappointing and frustrating. Love heals, and Brad needed his family.

Given all that Brad and his family have been through the past 19 months, and with everyone asking how they can help, we thought we would put this GoFundMe together on behalf of Brad's husband Nick Owen to help take some stress off Brad, Nick and the family and hopefully cover any unplanned expenses that has or may arise. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Brad is a beautiful soul who has touched so many lives. His bravery, tenacity and strength is so admirable and inspiring along with Nick and the Owen and Wong family. Brad & Nick have always been so selfless when it comes to helping others. For more information on Brad's journey, please visit https://bradowen.me/.
