Jen's Fight Against Pancreatic Cancer

Update - 8/27/21

My heart is incredibly heavy as I write this.

Jen passed away suddenly Friday 8/27/21 with Troy by her side.

Jen fought a courageous battle for over a year. She fought with every ounce of strength she had until the very last moment. Her faith remained incredibly strong despite all of the challenges and ups and downs she had to overcome. She kept her mind on fighting to be there for her husband and kids.

We are going to miss her incredible zest for life, beaming smile and heart of gold. She was an an amazing mother and wife who would do anything for her family and friends. Today she is resting peacefully, in no pain. She is now our angel.

Please wrap your arms around Troy, Ella, Leo, Asher and Jen's family as they process this news. They are so grateful for all the love and support.

Update - 7/1/21

Jen was experiencing a lot of unexpected pain, nausea and vomiting post surgery. More than what she and the doctors had anticipated.  Jen went in for what she thought was a routine drain study appt at Mayo a couple months after her surgery. After a routine scan, her doctors found concerning "spots" on her scans and wanted to do a biopsy to rule-out spread. The following week, Jen went in for a biopsy and on Father's Day morning she received the results. The cancer had spread to her abdominal wall in a few locations. Because her cancer spread to another organ, her pancreatic cancer is now considered Stage 4 and there is no cure. This  was and still is devastating news to the whole family.

On 4th of July weekend Jen was admitted into the hospital due to the inability to keep food and water down. She had lost a lot of weight in a short period of time and had plans to start chemo in the coming weeks. During her hospital stay she was started on 24/7 TPN (nutrition via IV) and discharged to home that following week. Jen was able to start her first round of chemo  on July 14th. We are hoping and praying the chemo will help reduce her pain and slow the cancer spread so she can have some "good days" free of pain, nausea and vomiting. This new chemo is much stronger than the chemo she was on previously. It's infused over 48 hours  and has some very strong side effects including extreme fatigue.

The Carlson Family has been through so much this past year. I am re-starting her go fund me account to help the family with financial support and medical bills as they begin a new journey.

Thank you for all your love and support!!! Jen and Troy are truly blessed to have such an amazing army of friends and family.

A few months ago, during quarantine, Jen started having mild-moderate abdominal pain and went to the doctor thinking she had mild pancreatitis. The doctor ran some blood tests and put her on a restricted diet hoping the pain would subside. A couple weeks later the pain was so bad she went in again, this time they ran additional testing. Due to the test results they referred her to GI for further evaluation. Jen had her first pancreatic biopsy at the end of July that came back inconclusive however they found some cancerous cells. A week later, they did a second biopsy and on June 9th, Jen got the phone call no one wants. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Since learning of her diagnosis, she has been working with different specialists and doctors to get second and third opinions on treatment options and clinical trials that are available. Jen will start chemotherapy Wednesday July 22nd and continue for six months. She will also undergo surgery to remove the cancer from her pancreas. She has a tough journey ahead of her.

Jen and her family are going to need all the love and support they can get so she can focus on fighting. Jen has an amazing husband, Troy and three kiddos Ella (11), Leo (8) and Asher (5). This last year she started her “dream job” working as an Occupational Therapist (OT) for the Osseo/Maple Grove school district working with Elementary kids. She is also a busy mom running her three kiddos around to many activities. Jen has a beautiful heart, glass always half full personality and is the one that is always looking out for others, helping friends and family whenever she can. We’d like to support the Carlson family by fundraising for medical expenses, help with finances due to Jen needing to take time off from work, and to make sure that Jen’s health and recovery is their primary focus.

Jen and her family are so appreciative of the outpouring love and support they have already received. She has an amazing army of people that love her and her family so much!
