Jen & Jus i360 abseil for Wolo

Justine and I have just decided that on Saturday morning we will abseil down the i360 in Brighton… that is 162 metres. We are good friends, as are our sons who are in the same class. Last year we enjoyed the exhilaration of getting into the winter sea together every week so we know how to test ourselves. However, we both have a fear of heights to the point Justine had to crawl away from a cliff edge and I had to abandon going up a particularly high tower due to our jelly legs. The thing is we have a very good reason to challenge ourselves…. We are supporting Wolo #weonlyliveonce – a charity which works to create community and practically and financially support families which are affected by cancer in Sussex.

As a family we are going through a very dark time. Our beautiful ten year old son Tris was diagnosed with leukaemia in July. His treatment will last 3.5 years and has already been insanely tough. We have spent weeks and weeks in hospital with complications and we have a long winter of intense chemo ahead of us. Thankfully it is the most curable and treatable form of childhood cancer. It is teaching us a lot about the simple joys of life and the fact that we must cherish every single good moment we have.

When you are faced with such devastation you need all the help you can get. We are incredibly blessed to be surrounded by amazing people who are supporting us. Life is so full on and we never know what is around the corner. We really need practical support as there is so much more to do and my time is largely taken up with hospital visits and helping both my children navigate this time well. Wolo have been fantastic and we will really need them going forward and so do many other families. Having a diagnosis of cancer is a costly business… you can't work and there are lots of extra costs. Wolo really understand this and the need for community and empathy. They are a small local charity with big ambitions and heart… just the type that need our support. We will really, really need motivation to step over the edge… can you help us reach our target?
