Jeff's Journey Home

6/7 UPDATE:
Thank you for loving on this beautiful family in their time of need. Though the GoFundMe has been successful and Jeff’s company has offered to help transport Jeff back to Georgia, the costs continue to grow as Jeff remains in the ICU. Please consider continuing to support Jeff, Kelly, and their boys during this serious time of need.

On June 1st, Jeff got a trach and PEG feeding tube, both good steps; however, he also developed pneumonia and an infection first at the surgical site on his head and now affecting his whole brain. The neurologist is not giving up hope yet; the infection just needs to clear. This may take more time and most likely another surgery (revision) to clean out the infected area. With all that said, he remains in the ICU for now.

In addition to praying for Jeff, please pray for the processes and red tape Kelly is having to struggle through. She remains in California as Jeff’s advocate. Anytime she is not at Jeff’s bedside, she is running around and on the phone trying to get paperwork and arrangements done. Please pray for obstacles to be removed. Please also pray for James and Daniel and their hearts during this difficult time.

ORIGINAL STORY:
Hi, my name is Marianne Glaser, and I am fundraising for our dear friends Jeff and Kelly Dahlin. As many of you know, Jeff (a great dad to sons James and Daniel) had an arterial tear in his neck that caused a stroke in the middle of May while traveling for work. He was staying overnight in California when the stroke happened and didn't show up for his flight. Jeff is still in the hospital in Long Beach, California where he has had a cranialectomy to relieve the pressure on his brain and another surgery to remove the blood clot. Unfortunately, the stroke has left him paralyzed on his right side. When not heavily sedated, Jeff has been able to open both eyes, squeeze the nurse's hand, and lift and hold his left arm up. He can also localize his response to induced pain instead of reacting generally. When the nurse induces pain in his right toe, he withdraws. These signs are very encouraging.

Kelly has talked to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, and they have all levels of care. There are several details to coordinate, but this is where they are hoping Jeff can go for care. The Shepherd Center is in contact with the hospital, but it is unclear how the air medical ambulance will be paid for.

Jeff needs to be at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, and Kelly needs to be in Georgia to be able to care for James and Daniel, but they need our help. The emergency medical treatment in California is going to be high, transporting Jeff to Georgia while receiving care is extremely expensive, and rehabbing at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta is costly. It's hard to ask for help, but any donation is greatly appreciated.

Please also pray for Jeff's healing, Kelly's endurance, and the boys' hearts.

Side note, Jeff was so proud in this picture as he flew the second shipment of the Moderna vaccine and test kits to Japan. He knew he was doing important work. Now it's our turn to help him.
