Hi, my name is Sandy, and I’m reaching out to share the story of my brother, Jeff. He is an active, sports loving man, dedicated to his health and well being, working out regularly and maintaining a strong, positive attitude in life.
Eight years ago, Jeff was diagnosed with left base of tongue cancer, a diagnosis that shocked all of us, especially because he’s never smoked a day in his life. Since then, Jeff has fought through rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. Despite his determination and strength, we were told this past April that his cancer had grown too large for any more traditional treatments. The only option left was an extremely risky surgery that could leave him disfigured due to the previous treatments.
Feeling like there was no hope left, we turned to Dr. Puram at Barnes. When we met with him, he offered a glimmer of hope, explaining that surgery was still a possibility, even though it was a long shot. This was our last chance. Dr. Puram promised he would do everything in his power to avoid the disfigurement we feared. After an 11-hour surgery, we received the call we had been praying for, Jeff was cancer free, and the margins were clear. It was a moment of relief we will never forget.
However, the joy was short lived. We soon received the devastating news that Jeff had suffered a massive stroke during surgery, and the situation became life or death. The doctors explained that a significant part of the surgery wasn’t holding, and they needed to go back in to prevent further complications. Going back into surgery was critical for his survival, but it was extremely risky. Thankfully they were able to successfully complete the second surgery, and Jeff remind in the ICU.
The stroke has left him with no movement on the right side of his body and has possibly impacted his ability to speak. Despite these challenges, Jeff remains aware and responsive, showing the strength and determination he’s always had.
Jeff's fight is far from over. He now needs intensive rehabilitation to have the best chance at walking again and living a life that resembles normalcy. We’re hopeful that with the right therapy, he can regain more movement and eventually return to the life he loves.
I’m asking for your help to cover Jeff’s medical expenses, mortgage payments, car payments, and other costs that have accumulated during this challenging time. As a sales professional, Jeff will be unable to work during his recovery, and this support will allow his wife to take time off as needed to help him adjust to this new normal. With your help, they can focus on healing without the added stress of financial burdens. Most importantly, your generosity will give Jeff and his family the peace of mind they need to face the road ahead with strength and hope.
Our family appreciates anything you can give, whether it’s a donation, a share, or a prayer. We know that with your help, Jeff can continue on the path to recovery and most importantly, we’re overjoyed that he’s cancer free.
Thank you for your support, love, and prayers. We’re forever grateful.
