Jeffrey's Recovery!

On February 12th, 2020, at 5:35pm, our dear friend and irreplaceable colleague, Jeffrey Jewell, was riding his Harley Davidson on the 580 to his home in Richmond when a car cut him off. There was no malice in it - it was one of those moments we've all experienced on Bay Area freeways, those moments when congestion, exhaustion, frustration, and distraction blend together in unknowable quantities and produce the awful shriek of metal hitting metal.
In Jeffrey's case, it was metal hitting flesh and shattering the tibia and fibula in his right leg.
Jeffrey called us, his coworkers, from the scene of the accident - before the ambulance arrived to pick him up - to tell us he wouldn't be coming to work in the morning. I mean, Jesus - I don't know about you, but if I had just gone under the wheels of an SUV, the office would be the LAST thing from my mind. That's not Jeffrey - he's committed to his responsibilities on a level that most people will never be!
Jeffrey is the Director of Security at China Basin Campus, and one of the most committed workers I've ever met. I wish I had a dime for every bike theft Jeffrey has prevented. Jeffrey is loved by everyone in our building and we don't really know how we're going to manage while he's recovering from his awful injuries. Right now, as I write this, Jeffrey's in surgery, and it will be a long road before he'll get back to his old self.
Since Jeffrey will be out of work for the foreseeable future, we're raising money to make him comfortable while he regains his strength and mobility. The medical bills are going to be substantial and we don't yet know what they will amount to. I'll update this campaign when we have more information about the bills. One thing we know for sure, this will be an expensive accident.
For right now, we really want our friend to know, while he's in these first few days of recovery, that there's support behind him. I hope you can chip in a little to give our friend peace of mind during this tough time!
