Jeffrey Craig Redington was my big brother. He was 3.5 years older than me. He cared for me growing up because my mom was a single mother trying to make ends meet for her children. My mom worked many jobs to make sure we had everything we needed. So, Jeffrey had to grow up quickly to keep up with it all. We fought like most siblings, but if I was ever in trouble, he was always there to help. He made mistakes but had finally gotten his life back on track.
When we received the terrible news that our mother had stage 4 cancer, it devastated my brother and me. The news of our mother's diagnosis affected us both tremendously. However, I feel that Jefferey was more deeply hurt as he couldn't be here with her for whatever time she had left.
This past Wednesday, December 7th, 2022, we received a call from the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, WI. Jeffrey had recently started dialysis, and on his third treatment, he suffered from a reaction. He was taken to the hospital and they pronounced him brain dead. I traveled to Wisconsin to say goodbye to my big brother. Jeffrey had just turned 50 this year and had not secured final arrangements for himself.
My family is struggling because we have just made final arrangements for my mother. My mother is very saddened by the news of my brother's passing. However, she is looking forward to seeing her son in Heaven. My brother was supposed to be here so we could help each other get through the loss of our mother, which is coming sooner than I will ever be ready for. I am devastated but so thankful for the support I am receiving from everyone.
We would like to raise at least $15,000 to assist in the final arrangements. Anything you can offer will help us tremendously. I truly appreciate your kindness.
Thank you,
Lisa Skinner, Jeffrey's little sister
