I’m Running a Half Marathon for My Cousin Jeff! (This Is Mostly About Me)

Jeff is my dear dear cousin. Our moms are sisters, and some of my absolute best memories are of us living together as kids.

Right now, Jeff is facing a tough battle against pleural mesothelioma at just 43 years old. Jeff is insanely generous, kind-hearted, and would show up for anyone without hesitation. You are not as good of a person as Jeff is. If you know Jeff, he's always been the giver, he would never ask for help himself. So I’m stepping in on his behalf because he deserves to know he’s not facing this alone.

Which brings us back to the most important part of this story: Did I mention I’m running a half marathon?

Sure, it’s in Jeff’s honor. And yes, every single dollar raised will go directly to Jeff, Leslie, and their two kids to help cover medical bills, food, and the endless hidden costs that come with cancer treatment. And if there’s a little left over to buy Jeff a cool TNG gift to lift his spirits, even better. (I'll make sure it's both Leslie and Picard approved.)

But please, do not lose sight of my personal sacrifice here. A half marathon is so hard. I am not a runner. How does me running actually help Jeff? My narcissism wants to connect my hard work for your support. But sure...it’s really about all of us coming together for Jeff!

I only have two weeks to train, and the race is at high elevation in Colorado. My primary goal is to beat my time from last year, which shouldn't be hard since my time was 3:46. Yes, that's for a half marathon.
