Hi all,
I am starting this fundraiser on behalf of my friend, Jeff.
On Christmas night, which was also his 53rd birthday, Jeff suffered a massive heart attack at home. Thankfully, his girlfriend was home at the time and she performed CPR until the ambulance arrived. He underwent triple bypass surgery the same night.
After what can only be described as a miraculous survival, he is now awake, talking with a trach tube, and ready to start full-time physical therapy at a specialized facility.
Unfortunately, the past few days have presented Jeff with a harsh financial reality. He was informed that his employment has been terminated and his insurance coverage will end this week. He will be transferring to Cobra insurance coverage, which comes with a very high premium, possibly as high as $1,000 a month.
Cobra costs can be devastating, especially for families with one income. His girlfriend is working but the impending insurance and other medical bills will be overwhelming for them, especially since Jeff is now unemployed. They are pursuing government assistance to help during this challenging time, but that process can be slow.
Jeff has a second chance at life and it is truly a miracle. He still has a long road of rehabilitation ahead of him, so it may be months before he is able to return to work. I wanted to establish this fundraiser for him and his girlfriend to hopefully lighten their financial burden until Jeff is back on his feet again.
Jeff’s favorite thing to do is entertain for friends and family. He loves cooking, especially with his beloved smoker. I can’t wait for the day I see him back in the kitchen again.
Any donation you can make (even $5) will be greatly appreciated by Jeff and his girlfriend as they navigate this challenging time. All donations will help lessen their burden and help Jeff focus his full attention on healing.
