Dearest community, with a heavy heart, I write to you requesting help for my brother and his family as Jeff fights his cancer battle.
On July 25th, 2022, Jeff went to the Emergency Department after experiencing chest discomfort for a few days. Jeff was found to have a large tumor in his chest. The biopsy results led to a diagnosis of Thymoma cancer that has spread into the surrounding tissues. Thymoma is a rare cancer occurring at 1.5 cases per every million people yearly in the US. Due to cancer, Jeff has been experiencing chest pain, shortness of breath, throat tightness, hives, and difficulty sleeping. Jeff will begin his chemo journey this Wednesday, September 14th, 2022. The plan is for four chemotherapy treatments spaced three weeks apart. At that point, Jeff will be reevaluated to see if he is a candidate for surgery.
Jeff, age 38, is a beloved husband and father to Sara and 18-month-old Myles. Their family has had a difficult journey over the past two years. They have survived through fertility challenges, the sudden tragic death of Sara’s mother during their pregnancy, and close family involvement in a devastating wildfire in Colorado. In early 2022 they moved back to Sara’s home state of Pennsylvania from Colorado with no knowledge of the cancer battle ahead of them. While they are close to excellent medical care, they are starting their lives in PA with new jobs, a new home and a limited social support network.
Jeff has been working at a local, family-owned grocery store in PA. While he carries health insurance coverage for their family, he will be unable to work during treatments leading to a substantial loss of income gap. Support will help pay for out-of-pocket health insurance costs, medical and prescription expenses, and supplement the loss of income over the next several months. Jeff, Sara and Myles can use all the love and support we can give them.
Please keep Jeff and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you ❤️
