Jeff Small and Family

Hello, my name is Moe. My sister and Jeff have been together for 25 years, celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary this past 5/18. They have 3 children, 2 with special needs. Logan is 18, Madison 17, Cody 13. I have not wanted to post anything because I was honestly hoping it was a bad dream. Jeff, my brother in law, brother in every sense of the word, went in for surgery to remove colon cancer, this past Monday. After 6 hours the surgery was successful at removing the tumor that was wrapped around his rectum and intestines. However, not long into recovery he suffered a massive stroke on the left side of his brain. He has been in ICU after life saving surgery to remove the blood clot. He is in a semi-conscience state. Unable to speak or move his right side. His blood pressure has been very high, I just spoke to the nurse and it is finally stable and controlled at this time. He suffered from an apparent seizure yesterday and is now on anti seizure medicine to help control them. This will be an extremely long road of recovery. Several different types of therapy, an immense amount of support from his family, friends and loved ones. We are hopeful that he will be able to go to a long term rehab facility by next week. Unfortunately you have to think of financial effects as insurance only covers so much. The best care and the best facility to insure the best recovery possible comes at a price. We are being told he will need at least a month of in patient therapy, and much more therapy for even years after. Then the travel expenses associated with this and hotel stays for his family so they can be near him during this crucial time in recovery. He is the rock in our family, the calm, funny, ALWAYS HELPING OTHERS, and the glue that binds us. Please pray that we pull through this and that Jeff has the strength to come though the other side as close to full recovery as possible. Rest assure I am being the strongest I can to support Jen and the kids to the best of my ability and beyond. We need our Jeff back, we need prayers, and I have to truly believe that God will hear them. Thank you to all of the friends and family that have gone to see him as they say hearing familiar voices help.
A good sign: when I was there Thursday morning, the occupational therapist came in, he kept asking Jeff to move his hand for him, squeeze it, arm wrestle, Jeff didn’t move. To help, I said, “Hey Jeff, the patriots are on!” Jeff opened his eyes. Then, moved slightly. He stopped listening to the therapist again, and in turn I said,” Hey Jeff, your going to spill your beer!!” He again opened his eyes. Anyone that knows Jeff, knows he is a diehard Boston, Bud-lite, Spider-Man fan, and is the first to wear some crazy outfit for a holiday or sporting event.

I believe with all my soul he is in there, and with our love and support he will come through. #Jeffthespideyhero We LOVE YOU!!!♥️
