Jeff Serben Bone Marrow Transplant
Spende geschützt
Hello, my name is Tyler Serben.
I'm not usually the kind of person to ask for help, neither is my family. But we're at wit's end. Any amount of donations would be very much appreciated.
Anyone who knows my dad knows that he is an amazing guy. Jeff Serben cooks, makes jokes, laughs as much as he loves. He has always been my hero and my best friend.
The journey began in late 2020. He started losing a lot of weight and started to get more fatigued. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, my dad was furloughed in December 2020. We thought that it was because he was at home most of the time. He was getting used to the sedentary lifestyle.
Then he started losing 10lbs... 20lbs.. 30lbs... And we realized he was losing weight at an alarming rate. My dad also lost all his appetite, and now, it takes a lot out of him to climb the stairs to his bedroom.
In March 2021, my dad finally agreed to see a doctor. They ran a couple of tests on him and realized that he has stopped producing red blood cells. It came as a pain and a shock to all of us. He also had an enlarged spleen and had gastritis due to taking too many NSAIDs to relieve the pain.
The doctors have come back with the results that he has Myelofibrosis. It is a rare bone marrow cancer. Although Myelofibrosis is not hereditary, by some crazy freak chance - my grandpa had it too, and it was the same reason he had passed on. Symptoms include weight loss, decreased production of red blood cells, anemia, lots of joint pain. He would have a chance of survival if he were to get a bone marrow transplant.
It pains me to see my father like this. But what hurts more is that the only chance of his survival is through surgery that costs $100,000. Money is hard to come by for my family, and this will set us back a lot more expenses. The goal I have put on GoFundMe only covers a fraction of what could be used to help my dad, but any money donated will still go a long way.
I know that what I'm asking is a lot... But I want to try anything that I can to help my dad live. All of us are afraid, but we want to remain hopeful.
We would be in so much gratitude if anyone could share and donate this cause for my dad. Thank you.
