Help for Jeff and Moose

Donation protected
On Saturday, September 12th, Jeff Oakden and his husband Moose returned home from vacation, only to learn that their apartment building was on fire as a result of faulty wiring.  Luckily, no one in the building was severely hurt, but theirs and several other units were destroyed along with most of their possessions, and the Fire Department has deemed the building unlivable.

To say the least, the tragedy has left Jeff’s family disoriented, listless, restless, and overwhelmed at the idea of having to start over. They have found temporary residence in a Midtown hotel, but remain nostalgic and sentimental at the loss of an apartment that they fixed, painted, decorated, and made into a home over the past five years. While they are thankful that they and their most precious items are all together, being in a transient space along with a small amount of random salvageable items only exacerbates an already difficult year.

Jeff and Moose are forever grateful and humbled by the outpouring of love and support, but could use your financial assistance. To help with their financial strain, we have set up a GoFundMe page for Jeff and Moose as they put their lives back together. Hopefully the Cowen community can come together in the spirit of generosity to help out one of our own.

As Jeff said, “through the thick cloud of smoke, rubble and ash that was left, there is also a deep-rooted feeling of gratitude.”
