Jeff Millwood Beat Leukemia

Donation protected
I’m Stephanie and this fund is for my goofy, stubborn, friendly, caring, eccentric brother-in-law Jeff Millwood, who was recently diagnosed with Hairy Cell Leukemia.

On June 14, 2018 he went to the ER with severe stomach pain. The hospital immediately admitted Jeff due to his low platelet count. Once admitted the hospital continued running test, and found out his spleen was so enlarged it was consuming most of his abdomen. It was measured to be 36cm, to give you a point of reference the average spleen size for an adult is about 11cm. Talk about a difference! The hospital staff was even in shock, they said they have never seen a spleen that large! So to bring everything back full circle, we now understand the stomach pain is from the spleen. But why the low platelet count and what is causing the spleen to be so enlarged? Initially, the doctors wanted to remove his spleen, but were unable to do so as his platelets were so low the surgery would have been fatal. Jeff was then sent to a hematologist, which is who found and diagnosed the Hairy Cell Leukemia on June 22, 2018. Just two days before celebrating his one year wedding anniversary to Ashley Millwood.

Jeff has completed his first week of chemo, but was admitted back to the hospital last night. He has a fever around the 103 mark and his body isn’t able to absorb antibiotics in the pill form. He has now had 4 bags of different IV antibiotics, the hospital plans for him to be there for the next few days.

Ashely, who is truly the kindest, most giving person I have ever known, now has the role of nurse, wife, chauffeur, caregiver, and bread winner. She has the weight of the world on her shoulders but has somehow managed to handle each devastating blow with grace and a positive outlook. Her employers have been more than understanding but she is quickly running out of vacation and sick paid time off. Jeff has been out of work for almost a month now, and unable to generate any income. It is highly unlikely that Jeff will be able to return to work for several months.

Jeff and Ashley need our help as they navigate through this journey.

They do have insurance, but it does not cover all expenses. This fund is set up to help them with the following:

·      Additional Medical expenses

·      Travel to/from treatment centers

·      Loss of Income

·      Daily living expenses

Jeff and Ashley will share updates with me (here) as they know more, and both want you to know that Jeff continues to keep his positive attitude and goofy sense of humor.

If you cannot donate, please share!

I thank you for taking the time to read about Jeff’s battle, and so do they.
