The page has been developed to raise money for Jeff (JT) Williams to travel to Boston, MA for 10-12 weeks for necessary medical treatment. Jeff has been diagnosed with amyloidosis. Some of you may recall he was hospitalized in February 2015 in ICU for difficulty breathing due to the significant swelling in his tongue which is an effect of the disease. He has been receiving chemo treatments since that stay in ICU. Unfortunately chemo does not cure his disease, it only makes the "numbers" stay low and when he is on a break from chemo his numbers climb back up. As we all know receiving chemo treatments forever is not an option nor will it ever be a cure. His last alternative was to travel to Boston, MA (referred by Johns Hopkins) to get testing to see if he was a candidate for stem cell treatment. That trip occurred in October where they had to stay for 5 days and we received the news we were hoping for, he is a candidate. Unfortunately the only place they are able to perform these treatments is at the University of Boston Medical Center where he will need to stay for 10-12 weeks. As you can imagine all of these medical bills (this treatment is only partially covered by insurance), hotel stays, etc. are really taking a toll on the household of a retired fireman. He will leave on January 1st and is scheduled to live in Boston, MA through April 1st. JT has been involved as a volunteer in Prince George's county his entire life and is also retired from DCFD. He still tries to come visit the fire houses and help out as much as he is physically able. As you can imagine it is very difficult for such a proud man to need assistance but sometimes it's necessary. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated.
