Jeffrey Paul Ihry, 52, passed away at home on August 27th, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Spencer, Iowa, on August 29th, 1966, to John E. (Jack) and Florence (Fluff) Ihry and grew up on a farm outside of Royal, Iowa, with six older sisters and a younger brother. As a youngster, he loved playing army in the barn and one of the highlights of his childhood was getting an Atari with his younger brother Jason for Christmas.
Jeff was a 1985 graduate of Clay Central High School, where he participated in many sports including football, basketball, baseball and track. He also participated in music and band. Jeff was a die-hard Cyclone fan and graduated from Iowa State University in 1990, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Fraternity. It was there that he met his future wife, Angela Armstrong, whom he married on June 13, 1992 and their union produced 4 boys. Their careers took them to Fort Madison, IA, Sioux Falls, SD, and Naperville, IL. Angela and Jeff returned to Iowa, moving to West Des Moines in March of 2018. Jeff was a salesman who was effective at building strong relationships with clients and colleagues. He was employed for a short time with West Des Moines Public Schools before his cancer was diagnosed in November of 2018.
Jeff loved watching all sports and especially enjoyed attending ISU sporting events and his sons’ games and matches. Nothing made him prouder than being a dad to his four sons, encouraging them in all their endeavors and life choices. He was an avid history, political and trivia buff as well as a voracious reader. He loved being a fierce competitor in card and board games. His Catholic faith was very important to him and he was a part of CRHP.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Angela, four sons; Jared, Connor, Max and Jack; his mother; sisters Jane (Tom) Senst, Jill (Lane) Johnson, Joni (Terry) Murphy, Juli Kwikkel, Jeri (Kevin) Boeve, Joye (Jim) Noonan, and one brother, Jason Ihry; his mother-in-law Betsy (Carlos) Jayne; father-in-law William (Emma) Armstrong and Haru; sister-in-law Lisa Krugler; brother-in-law Michael Armstrong; many nieces, nephews, fraternity brothers and great friends. He was preceded in death by his father and brothers-in-law Terry Slaughter and Dave Kwikkel.
