Jeff Has Rare Malignant Cancer 58 Yrs. Old
Donation protected
Hi, my name is LaDonna and I am the 27-year wife of Jeff Jensen, father of 2 daughters now just 25 and 21 years old, and small business owner in the Houston, TX / The Woodlands, TX area.
He recently found out he has malignant Stage 3 fast-spreading cancer in his neck and throat area. It is considered rare cancer since many biopsies have been performed without a definite cell identification.
More surgeries and procedures are coming up rapidly to determine the exact type of cancer and diagnosis so that the correct treatment can begin immediately. He had a lump form in his neck/throat in January of this year 2023.
It started out with what appeared as a swollen bottom rear gum, just thinking that his bottom molar had a bad cavity or something.
He went to our primary care doctor, they told him that he needed a CT scan. After making the appointment with the CT specialist, we were advised that they were out of network, and could not perform the procedure. After we finally found another location that would perfom a CT scan, the doctors office notified us that they are no longer accepting our insurance "Friday Insurance".
In the beginning of February, Jeff went to a CVS Minute Clinic, and was diagnosed with a gum/tooth infection. He was prescribed 10 days of a strong antibiotic, which showed a decrease in the swelling, along with the pain subsiding.
With the lump still present, we changed our insurance to Aetna and chose Kelsey Seybold as our new primary care doctor. The primary care physician at Kelsey Seybold advised to also start with a CT Scan. A biopsy was performed a couple days later, with the results of now 2 tumors with cancer but still undiagnosed of the exact type of cancer.
A PET Scan was also performed, with a node being found in his right lung. He now has to have exploratory surgery to remove his tonsils to perform biopsies on them, along with having a bore needle procedure on the tumors and a tongue biopsy to hopefully find what they are looking for. He will then have strategic targeted radiation and chemotherapy, and possible further neck and face surgury to remove as much of the mass as possible. This will include having skin graphs and muscle reconstruction from other parts of his body.
As a small business owner and the main provider of our home, this has been quite shocking, and extreme, as we have suddenly been thrust into the medical loops of specialists, now have 5 doctors total that he has had to see for consultations, and it is on an extreme case pace, and to top it off, they said he had to have his teeth pulled for the upcoming radiation, and that still is not determined when it will begin.
So this past Friday, 3/17/23, he had 8 teeth pulled, including his front bottom teeth. For a business person who is a specialist in his field, who has to go in person to accounts, it was a devastating start to this possible career-ending event at just 58 years old. A 30-plus-year specialist in the security and telecommunications industry. We have been told without any treatment he has 1 year to live. And with treatment, for up to 3 years if they find in the exploratory surgery that this is treatable cancer.
Since we heard that from the radiology and ENT oncologist, cancer in his neck has grown rapidly while we wait for the next tests, and then surgery to try and figure out what they are dealing with. We know it is in his lymph nodes which have expedited the need to move quickly to keep it from spreading.
The influx of doctor visits and the testing that has been ordered, and now the recovery of the teeth being pulled, has completely diminished his ability to provide for our family. Our insurance company is slow in covering expenses as they are coming rapidly, and many want payment at the door to do a procedure, and then to see if insurance covers it.
I am caring for him and for our 2 daughters that are beginning to live with this in our home and the severity of it. So, I am humbly just asking for any donation you may be able to give to this very kind and generous man, who gives his lunch to the homeless almost daily as he goes around town in the Houston area.
He is a Christian who lives by the values taught in a home where community service is a standard and who has worked tirelessly to care for his family. I thank you and want you to know that this is a critical situation we find ourselves in, and we have always been on the giving end of things. We now find ourselves on the other end of that suddenly. Thank you, truly. LaDonna Stewart Jensen
