Hi, my name is Jeff. When I was 19 years old, I was in a car accident that resulted in paraplegia. I have a spinal cord injury at the level T3, meaning none of my muscles work below the level of my upper ribs. I've been a wheelchair user for 35 years, and I have been relying on my arms to move around. Over the years I have developed issues with my shoulders that make moving around and relieving pressure on my skin much more difficult. I have some rotator cuff tears, and I even tore my biceps tendon falling from my wheelchair.
Recently, I have been in and out of the hospital with bedsores and infections because it is getting more difficult for me to move around like I used to. My wheelchair is 8 years old, and doesn't have the features I need to help me keep pressure off my wounds when I'm in it, or transferring in and out of it. I have been working with the custom wheelchair company to get an updated chair with pressure-relieving features, but I am not in a place in my life where I can afford the deductible. I am facing several expensive hospital bills, as well as some significant repairs I need to complete on my home to have a roof over my head and a safe and conditioned space to live in. As a disabled individual with a fixed income, these bills are already more than I can manage, let alone finance a new chair.
It has been a long year in and out of hospitals, and I am really looking forward to being able to get back to my life taking care of my house and participating in the Classic Treasures car club. I am respectfully asking for any financial assistance you may be able to provide during these hard times, and I humbly thank you in advance for your time and help.
