My name is Hayden. I'm a Latter-day Saint (Mormon), and I create content engaging with some of the most important theological questions in Christianity—especially around authority, scripture, and how we know what God has revealed. You can find my content on YouTube, Instagram, X, and TikTok by searching Let's Talk w/ Hayden Carroll.

Recently, there’s been ongoing public interaction between me and Jeff Durbin of Apologia Church regarding the doctrine of Sola Scriptura—the idea that the 66-book Protestant canon is the sole infallible rule of faith for Christians.
Rather than continuing through indirect responses and separate videos, I’ve publicly invited Jeff to a formal, moderated debate on this resolution:
“God has taught that the 66 books of the Protestant canon is His infallible and final authority.”
Jeff would take the affirmative and I would take the negative position.
We will have opening statements, rebuttals, cross-examination, closing statements, and audience Q&A. We will figure out exact time and details when the invitation is accepted.
I believe this conversation deserves to happen clearly, directly, and in a way that benefits everyone watching.
It will be a live debate with an audience somewhere in the Phoenix, AZ area. Jeff may choose the moderator and exact location, if he desires.
I will both email Jeff and tag him on X with this debate proposal, the GoFundMe page, and this video. If he does not respond within a month, I will personally go to Apologia Church in Mesa, AZ, and hand him a letter with all of the info.
In order to make the debate even more meaningful and productive, I have created a GoFundMe to raise money for charity if the debate happens.
So, here’s the purpose and details for this fundraiser:
If Jeff accepts the debate by August 31st, 2026, and the debate is scheduled for a reasonable date in the near future, and the debate happens, 100% of the funds raised will be donated to a charity of Jeff Durbin’s choice.
If Jeff declines the debate or does not respond by August 31st, 2026, 100% of the funds will be donated to the LDS Church’s missionary fund. If Jeff accepts the debate by August 31st, but then cancels without rescheduling, the funds will be donated to the LDS Church’s missionary fund. If multiple rescheduling conflicts arise and the debate does not happen by December 31st for any reason, the funds will be donated to the LDS Church’s missionary fund.
Either way, the outcome contributes to something meaningful.
I’m inviting those who care about truth, clarity, and open dialogue to support this effort.
If you believe these conversations matter—and should happen openly rather than through indirect commentary—you can contribute on the GoFundMe page which will be posted in the description of this video and in the pinned comment.
Thank you for your support, and I hope to hear back from Jeff soon.
Edit: If Jeff accepts, he must choose a legit, reputable, and verifiable charity with no ties to his church.
