Jeff Deweese Hit By a Drunk Driver
Donation protected
Sunday morning April 28th, 2019 at 10:00AM, my nephew Jeff was hit by a drunk driver at 64 MPH. Jeff was waiting to turn left into his girlfriends apartment complex when he was hit from behind on his motorcycle. He never saw it coming. Jeff was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. He suffered a broken neck, a fractured skull which opened up 6" requiring brain surgery, a fractured left eye socket, fractured nose and two fractured ribs. They rushed him into surgery soon after arrival to try and reset his vertebrae in his neck. The surgeon had to fuse C3 through T1 and place a rod in his neck to keep them inline. Jeff under went a second neck surgery the next day to relieve the pressure on his badly damaged spinal cord and nerves. Due to the extent of damage to Jeff's spinal cord, he is now paralyzed from the sternum down. The surgeon said it will take a miracle for him to ever walk again. He still has two more reconstructive surgeries over the next few days.
Jeff is 33 years old. He is employed full time at a Dental Lab here in Scottsdale, AZ and loves his job. Jeff is a motorcycle enthusiast. He loves Bikes! Jeff has always been a good friend to those who know him. Jeff is fun to be around and is always making you laugh.
The Homicide Investigator that was assigned to the case (Homicide Investigator because they did not think he would live) told me that he has been doing this for over 20 years and Jeff should not have survived the impact. The driver had a BAC level of .192 which is an extreme DUI here in Arizona. He admitted to have been drinking all night without going to bed. The car was registered to someone else and we believe it may have been stolen. Bottom line.... This guy had no insurance! He has been charged with vehicular assault. Not enough in my book...
HOW CAN WE HELP JEFF?
Jeff has a long road to recovery ahead of him. He does have medical insurance, but he will be unable to work and be in rehabilitation over the next 12-24 months. We can only pray that he regains some use of his lower body. Any donation, no matter how small will help. We just want Jeff to worry about walking again and getting better, not bills. Please help if you can. If you can't right now, that's OK. Send Jeff a message of support, he would love that.
Thank you from the Miller Family and Jeff Deweese.
