My name is Brooke, and I am a sister-in-law to Jeff Cotney and sister to Amber Cotney. Jeff and Amber have two boys, Payton and Hunter who reside in Gillette, Wyoming.

 

Jeff was diagnosed at age 29 with Ewing Sarcoma in 2012 as medical staff found a cancerous tumor in his kidney. Jeff underwent surgery to have the kidney removed. He received numerous chemo and radiation treatments during that time. Jeff was in remission for several years, but unfortunately, in 2015, the cancer was located in a site where his kidney was removed. Jeff underwent another surgery to have the mass removed and received chemo treatments during that time.

 

Last month, Jeff received his annual scan results indicating there were tumors in his groin and lung. A biopsy on both sites was conducted on both sites. The tumor in the groin was benign but suspicious. Test results from the tumor in the lung came back cancerous. As you can imagine, this news was shocking and emotional for Jeff and the Cotney family. Jeff will be making multiple visits to Denver, Colorado, for follow-up appointments at the University of Colorado Hospital this month. Jeff will undergo surgery to have the spot in his lung removed. The surgery will be invasive and will take months of healing. Amber, Jeff's wife, will be the only source of income for her family, and the financial burden will be devastating to their family due to the trips to Denver and medical bills. Amber will go on FMLA without pay to take care of Jeff during the few months Jeff is recovering.

 

Jeff and Amber have significantly impacted my life and are loved by many. The news of cancer returning has devastated many who love the Cotney's.
