Jeff and Nicky's Journey

Don protégé
My dad, Jeff, has End Stage Kidney Failure. He has only 7% kidney function and has been doing Peritonial Dialysis every night for the past 2 years. Because of the effects from his disease, he has been unable to work. He goes to Davita Dialysis Center for bi-weekly checkups and has multiple doctors appointments. At the age of 47, he had to have his second open heart surgery (first being at the age of 32) and hernia surgery leaving him unable to do his dialysis for 4 days. Because of that, he went into toxic overload. If he went any longer then the 4 days, he would have been dead. He's been on a waiting list for a kidney transplant at Yale New Haven Hospital for the past 2 years and recently got onto the list at Hartford Hospital. A typical waitlist for a living donor is 5-7 years and for a donor that is no longer living is 7-9 years. Nicky, my mother, is actually going to be donating her kidney to my father. But doing so is going to leave her out of work and income for at least 2 months. The recovery is going to be very long and exhausting but seeing him this way breaks her heart. No one deserves to live a life of pain and unhappiness. So saying this, I please ask for some help raising money to help them out on their very long journey to getting back into living a healthy, happy life.

“Without the organ donor, there is no story, there is no hope, no transplant. But when there is a organ donor, life springs from death, sorrows turn from hope, and a terrible loss becomes a gift.”
